Balwin Properties has demonstrated the tangible financial benefits of its green building strategy, with its dedicated sustainable utilities arm, Balwin Green Living, delivering over R4.6 million in direct savings to homeowners through its solar energy installations.
The initiative, which provides metering and sustainable utility solutions to body corporates, is a core component of Balwin’s commitment to environmentally conscious development.
The JSE-listed company announced that the solar photovoltaic (PV) arrays deployed across its developments have generated 1.7 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of renewable energy in the recent interim period.
This significant energy production directly translates to lower electricity costs for residents, even while navigating the seasonal challenges of winter, which typically reduces solar PV performance.
The business reported that its financial contributions were moderated by this seasonality but are expected to strengthen in the sunnier second half of the year.
The scale of Balwin’s solar footprint continues to expand at a rapid pace.
As of August 2025, the company had installed a cumulative total of 5.6 megawatt-peak (MWp) of solar PV capacity across its developments, a substantial increase from the 4.5 MWp installed during the same period last year.
This growth emphasises Balwin’s strategic drive for sustainability.
By managing energy generation at the source, Balwin Green Living is effectively insulating homeowners from the worst of rising municipal electricity tariffs, turning rooftops into revenue-saving assets.
“The R4.6 million in savings is a powerful figure that moves the conversation on green building from abstract benefits to concrete financial wins for our homeowners,” the report stated. “As we continue to deploy more solar capacity, we expect these savings to accelerate, making sustainable living an increasingly accessible and affordable reality.”
