AVBOB Funeral Services has confirmed that a recent disruption to its digital platforms and services was caused by external malicious actors.
The company is treating the incident as a serious cyber attack and has mobilized technical teams and specialist partners to restore functionality.
Adriaan Bester, General Manager of Corporate Affairs at AVBOB, on Monday, 8 June 2026, said: “The matter is being treated with the utmost seriousness, and our technical teams, together with specialist partners, are working around the clock to restore functionality.”
He added that while investigations are ongoing to determine the full scope of the breach, including whether personal information was compromised, steady progress has already been made.
Despite the disruption, AVBOB assured policyholders and stakeholders that essential services remain available.
All branches nationwide continue to operate, assisting with payments, claims registration, and funeral arrangements through manual procedures.
In the interim, clients who experience technical difficulties accessing AVBOB’s digital platforms may pay their premiums online using the following secure link: https://payat.io/qr/11745.
Clients experiencing delays in payments will not be negatively affected, and policyholders will not be prejudiced by the temporary disruption.
The company warned against using any other links, cautioning that fraudsters may attempt to exploit the situation.
New claims can be lodged directly via email at myclaim@avbob.co.za.
Bester emphasised that continuity of services is the company’s priority: “We wish to assure our policyholders, partners and stakeholders that we are actively managing the situation and prioritising the continuity of essential services.”
He concluded with an apology for the inconvenience, thanking clients and partners for their patience and understanding.
