XLink Communications, a subsidiary of Vodacom and part of the Vodafone Group, is redefining Africa’s payments ecosystem with a suite of cutting-edge solutions designed to enhance the customer payment experience.
Established in 2004, XLink has evolved from a connectivity provider into a purpose-driven PayTech leader, championing financial inclusion across the continent.
Operating in South Africa, Zambia, Kenya, and Ghana, the company is now at the forefront of payment innovation under the visionary leadership of CEO Dr. Thanusha Govender.
Since assuming the role in 2022, Dr. Govender has led a strategic transformation, repositioning XLink as a multifaceted payment technology powerhouse.
The company now offers end-to-end integrated payment solutions, including hardware, software-as-a-service (SaaS), infrastructure, connectivity platforms, lifecycle and supply chain management, field technician networks, and call center services. This shift has solidified XLink’s role as a key player in Africa’s payment orchestration landscape.
“This was a complete reset for the organization,” Dr. Govender explained. “Our market diversification strategy required us to reimagine every aspect of our operations. It wasn’t about changing one thing—it was about transforming everything to meet the evolving needs of the market.”
Today, XLink serves a broad spectrum of clients, including financial service providers, FinTechs, merchant acquirers, payment aggregators, telcos, retailers, government entities, and businesses involved in payments, ATMs, and cash management. By focusing on innovation and financial inclusion, XLink delivers modular, interoperable solutions that address Africa’s unique challenges and opportunities.
In a significant milestone, XLink recently launched XLink Send, its first cross-border payments solution. This remittance-as-a-service platform empowers banks, telcos, retailers, and FinTechs to offer affordable, efficient remittance services to both corporate and retail customers. Unlike traditional remittance services with high fees, XLink Send prioritizes affordability and accessibility, enabling users to send money via WhatsApp, mobile apps, or a web portal. These channels integrate seamlessly into existing client systems, ensuring a smooth user experience.
Looking ahead, XLink remains committed to its mission of expanding financial access across Africa. With a strong foundation, innovative solutions, and visionary leadership, the company is poised to drive continued growth and remain a leader in Africa’s dynamic payments landscape. By delivering seamless, accessible, and affordable payment solutions, XLink is not only transforming the way Africa pays but also paving the way for a more inclusive and prosperous future.
Under Dr. Govender’s leadership, XLink is not just keeping pace with the evolving payments industry—it’s setting the standard, ensuring that financial services are available to everyone, anytime, anywhere.
Internet of Things (IoT) player XLink has collaborated with global technology solutions expert Fastcomm to bring connected solutions for South Africa’s retail industry.
The COVID–19 pandemic has changed the way we live, work and even eat, with many businesses being forced to shut down to implement effective social distancing measures.
The restaurant industry has been hard hit and restaurants are realising the need to become more digitally driven, with many introducing a form of online ordering and delivery in order to stay afloat.
International company Fastcomm, with its headquarters, based in Cape Town, has a range of innovative, technology-driven platforms and solutions to help businesses during COVID-19, from temperature screening modules, online restaurant management, chat enabled order & collect, and remote monitoring.
Under the agreement, XLink – which enables businesses in retail and financial services to solve complex challenges – will bring FoodGuru, a platform developed by Fastcomm, to South Africa.

The FoodGuru platform, together with XLink, will facilitate business recovery for restaurants as lockdown restrictions in South Africa are being gradually lifted over the coming months.
