Data from multinational research firm BrandsEye painted a bad picture of Rain as the worst mobile network in South Africa. BrandsEye today released its latest SA Telcos Sentiment Index, which analysed about two million social media posts about telco providers: Cell C, MTN, Rain, Telkom, and Vodacom throughout the year. The index found that some telcos received significantly more negativity on social media platforms than others. A new IBM study conducted by International Data Corporation (IDC) revealed that 84% of South African C-Suite are either pursuing or planning hybrid cloud strategies. London-listed Helios Towers announced on Tuesday plans to buy the towers of Airtel Africa. The company said it has signed an agreement to buy Airtel Africa’s passive infrastructure in Madagascar and Malawi and has signed an exclusive memorandum of understanding for the potential acquisition of its passive infrastructure assets in Chad and Gabon. Softbank and Tencent are taking a $300 million (R4.5 billion) bet on PatSnap, an Innovation Intelligence (IP) analytics platform. The investment round was led by SoftBank Vision Fund 2 and Tencent Investment with participation from CPE Industrial Fund and existing investors Sequoia China, Shun Wei Capital, and Vertex Ventures.
