Johannesburg is set to welcome a game-changing addition to its urban landscape as Attacq, a leading property developer, announces plans for a state-of-the-art conference centre and hotel in the heart of Waterfall City. With a staggering R2.75 billion allocated for new developments, this project promises to redefine the city’s commercial and hospitality sectors.
The crown jewel of the development is the 15,000 sqm Waterfall City Conference Centre and Hotel, designed to become a premier destination for business and leisure travelers alike.
But that’s not all – Attacq’s ambitious plans include Gateway East, an innovative 11,700 sqm collaboration hub featuring a 1,500 sqm ground-floor restaurant space, perfect for networking and social gatherings.
In addition to these flagship projects, Attacq is rolling out two client-driven logistics developments spanning 90,000 sqm and 16,000 sqm, alongside a 20,000 sqm speculative logistics development. These projects aim to bolster Johannesburg’s position as a logistics and distribution hub in the region.
A standout feature of Attacq’s strategy is its partnership with Vantage Data Centres. The two entities have joined forces in a 50/50 joint venture to construct a 10,363 sqm “dark shell” data centre, representing the first phase of a larger data centre campus. With an estimated capital investment of R628 million and a 20-year lease already secured, this project ensures long-term stability and growth potential.
Attacq’s influence extends further as the development manager for Waterfall Junction, a collaborative venture with Sanlam Life Insurance Limited. Together, they oversee a massive 1.4 million sqm of development bulk across Waterfall City, including Sanlam’s 313,791 sqm share in Waterfall Junction.
The Waterfall Junction development is equally impressive, will be featuring:
- 6 phases totaling 627,582 sqm of bulk, offering unparalleled design flexibility.
- Strategic location on the K113, a new North/South logistics arterial.
- A fully commissioned bulk water supply system, set for completion by the end of 2024.
- Phase 1 (150,000 sqm) expected to be proclaimed by April 2025, with Phases 2 and 3 (190,000 sqm) following in Q2 FY2026.
- 150 MVA of secured power supply from Eskom, catering to potential data warehouse needs.
- Over 200,000 sqm of tenant-driven enquiries currently in negotiation, including a signed Heads of Terms for a 16,000 sqm development.
- Plans for a 20,000 sqm speculative development in response to high demand on Phase 1.
This sweeping development initiative emphasises Attacq’s commitment to transforming Waterfall City into a dynamic, multi-purpose hub that caters to businesses, logistics, and hospitality.
With these projects, is Johannesburg is poised to become a leading destination for innovation, commerce, and luxury in South Africa?
