Durban has the fastest mobile speed among five most populous cities in South Africa, says internet testing and analysis company Ookla.
Durban’s mean download speed of 17.3% placed the city in first place, making it faster than that of fifth place, Cape Town.
“Durban had the fastest download speed of South Africa’s largest cities, but competition was close,” says Ookla.
The Ookla’s analysis is based on the first-quarter 2018 data from Speedtest Intelligence, which offers up-to-date insights into global fixed broadband and mobile performance data based on millions of consumer-initiated tests taken every day.
The band of speeds these cities fall into is relatively narrow, though.
And although Pretoria’s download speed was 5.9% faster than that in nearby Soweto, a casual user would not notice the difference in performance between the two, says Ookla.
