Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) proudly marks the 15th anniversary of King Shaka International Airport (KSIA) today, 1 May 2025.

Since opening in May 2010, KSIA has grown into a world-class travel hub, driving tourism, trade, and economic growth in KwaZulu-Natal. Nestled near Durban’s vibrant coastline, it remains a key gateway to the region.

Nkosinathi Myataza, KSIA’s Regional General Manager, reflects: “For us, travel transcends mere arrivals and departures; it’s about fostering meaningful connections and crafting unforgettable experiences. Over the past 15 years, we have proudly facilitated millions of journeys, ensuring travellers feel secure and supported at every stage. We are deeply committed to being a trusted partner in their travel experience.”

KSIA’s post-pandemic recovery highlights its resilience. In 2024–2025, it recorded 40,935 aircraft movements (an 81% recovery vs. pre-COVID levels) and 5,042,922 passengers (an 83% rebound from 2019–2020). This growth signals strong regional connectivity and optimism for the future.

“KSIA embodies more than just an aviation hub; it symbolizes progress and strategic foresight,” adds Myataza. “By prioritizing innovation and infrastructure, we’re set to meet future demands and drive inclusive economic growth.”

As part of the Durban Aerotropolis master plan, KSIA continues to shape KZN into a global economic powerhouse.

“We thank our travellers, partners, and staff for this incredible journey,” concludes Myataza. *“As we celebrate 15 years, our focus remains on delivering world-class experiences for generations to come.”*
