The Information Regulator says it will embark on a robust assessment of political parties’ compliance with the Promotion of Access to Information (PAIA) Act 2, 2000. The Regulator said the assessment is part of its programme of action presented in its Annual Performance Plan 2023/2024 to the Justice and Correctional Services Portfolio Committee. Dis-Chem Pharmacies has experienced minimal disruption to its business as a result of the power cuts instigated by struggling power utility Eskom. The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) issued today a worldwide appeal calling to increase the value of pledges for digitalising the world from the current $30 billion to $100 billion by 2026. Bayobab, a wholly owned subsidiary of MTN Group, has teamed up with Africa50, an infrastructure investment platform, to build a terrestrial fibre optic cable network connecting the eastern shores of Africa to those on the continent’s west. Bayobab, formely known as MTN GlobalConnect, has signed a partnership with Africa50 to develop Project East2West. Vodacom said today that the ongoing power outages have been disastrous for the South African economy and the industry as a whole. Vodacom today announced that its super-app VodaPay has 3.3 million registered users. “I am particularly encouraged by the traction and transaction volume growth that our VodaPay super- app continues to attract through its 5.7 million downloads and 3.3 million registered users,” said Shameel Joosub, CEO of Vodacom.
