The more we automate, the more consumers are asking who they can actually trust.
Scroll social media at any time of the day, and you’ll find founder-creatives sharing how they use AI to draft, schedule, and send a week’s worth of content in under four minutes. Open my DM inbox, and you’ll find founders asking for something no tool can give them: a personal introduction to a real person who can actually help them.
This is the paradox we are all living inside right now: AI can help us communicate at a scale we have never had access to before. At the same exact time, genuine relationships have never been more needed or more valued.
What this means for your bottom line
Social media taught an entire generation of founders to chase audience size. Followers, likes, and reach have pushed us to optimize for the biggest possible crowd. The AI era is teaching us something different: relationship capital, not audience size, is what truly drives a business forward.
According to 2026 consumer shopping research from Envision Horizons, consumers still trust friends and family more than any other form of recommendations, including AI assistants, for an unbiased product recommendation. Word of mouth still drives most purchasing decisions. No algorithm, no matter how strong, can replace that. And AI cannot fabricate a close friend or confidant sharing their personal experience with you
The question every consumer is asking
That begs the question, which brands can I actually trust?
Trust in brands that use AI heavily in their marketing is falling fast. In 2025, 20% of consumers said heavy AI use would make them trust a brand less. By 2026, that number doubled to 39% (Search Engine Land, 2026). Consumers are becoming more discerning. In a market flooded with content that could have come from anywhere, the founder or brand that is known, liked, and trusted has an advantage no amount of automation can replicate.
Automate the task, not the relationship
AI is not bad; I use AI in my own business every day, and I encourage the Entreprenista League members to do the same. AI can do so much more than write your caption, summarize calls, and streamline your processes. It can execute very complicated tasks. What it cannot do is manufacture real, human connection, which offers real support, real belief in a cause, or real trust. People will keep doing business with other people and brands they know, love, and trust. That hasn’t changed, but it’s become rarer, making it all the more valuable.
My advice when it comes to AI: Automate the parts of your business that drain your time and use every hour that AI gives you back for the relationship-building tasks it cannot replace;make the follow-up call, meet in person and attend events, write the handwritten note, send a personal DM, seek out the opportunities that connect you to new people. Efficiency and connection are not opposites. When used well, one buys you more time for the other.
The real opportunityThe founders who win in this new world of AI will focus on using these tools to give themselves and their businesses hours back, then reinvest those hours into building the relationships that actually grow a business.
Trust is becoming the most valuable currency we have at the exact moment that it is getting harder to grow and scale. This is not a threat to founders who have built their businesses on real community; it is our biggest advantage.
The most successful entrepreneurs are the one who have found and nurtured a community and are growing a business they are passionate about. No piece of software will change that. If anything, it has proved the point that relationships, community and trust are an invaluable currency now, and always.

About Stephanie Cartin
Stephanie Cartin is a celebrated entrepreneur, award-winning community builder, and co-founder of multiple powerhouse brands that have reshaped the landscape of women’s entrepreneurship. With more than $50 million in lifetime business revenue, she has spent her career turning early passion for social media into industry-leading companies and a global community. Stephanie first made her mark as the co-founder of Socialfly, one of New York’s first social-first digital agencies, where she and her business partner, Courtney Spritzer, helped hundreds of brands strategically grow and scale through innovative online presence. Their belief in practicing what they teach led them to co-author a bestselling book on social media and establish themselves as trusted voices at the forefront of digital marketing.
Stephanie’s entrepreneurial journey is rooted in lived experience specifically, creating the very resources she wished existed when she first started. In 2018, she and Courtney launched the Entreprenista Podcast, one of the earliest podcasts dedicated to women founders, born from the overwhelming number of women seeking mentorship, guidance, and connection. The show quickly expanded their reach and cemented their role as advocates for female entrepreneurship. What began as a podcast evolved into The Entreprenista League, a thriving membership community built organically through relationships with other founders. Today, The League provides practical tools, learning opportunities, visibility pathways, and a deeply connected network that supports entrepreneurs at every stage.
Driven by a belief in the unlimited potential of women who venture beyond traditional paths, Stephanie has continued to build influential platforms that uplift and spotlight founders. Under her leadership, Entreprenista now includes the Entreprenista 100 Awards, created to honor extraordinary women-led businesses, and Founders Weekend, an immersive in-person retreat designed to foster authentic connection, collaboration, and growth. These initiatives reflect Stephanie’s larger mission: to democratize access to community, mentorship, and recognition especially for women who are building something bigger than themselves.
Widely recognized for her visionary leadership, Stephanie has been featured in Forbes, Citi Life & Money, and across major business media, sharing her insights on entrepreneurship, community-building, and the power of women supporting women. She is known for her candor about her own journey from being “unemployable” in the traditional sense to building multimillion-dollar companies and for her unwavering commitment to helping women succeed. Today, as co-founder of Socialfly, The Entreprenista League, and multiple media platforms, Stephanie continues to champion the next generation of founders, offering the tools, stories, and support that turn big dreams into sustainable success.
