FlySafair has cancelled some flights owing to a pilot strike prompted by the impasse over salary hikes.
Solidarity, the union that represents most of the pilots, warned last week of an impending strike after FlySafair’s final offer – a 5,7% salary increase along with some additional adjustments to compensation – was rejected by the vast majority of Solidarity members.

On Monday, 21 July 2025, the low-cost airline issued a notice on its website saying: “We’re sorry to inform you that due to the intensifying strike action, some of our flights have unfortunately been cancelled”.
FlySafair added: “We know how disruptive this can be, and we want to make the next steps as easy as possible for affected customers.”
FlySafair told passengers that if their flight has been cancelled, they have the following options available:
1. Choose a New Flight
Rebook your trip by selecting a different flight on the same route, or pick entirely new flights for a future journey.
2. Cancel and Receive a Voucher
Cancel your booking and receive a FlySafair voucher for the full value of your original flight. This credit will be loaded to your FlySafair Wallet and is valid for 12 months. That means you have a year to use it towards any available future flights.
If you’d prefer a full cash refund instead, you’re also welcome to cash out your voucher at any time.

“You’ll just need your six-letter booking reference number and the last name of one of the travellers,” advised FlySafair.
“We will be keeping customers updated via our Travel Updates page, so keep an eye on that page for any news.
“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through this disruption.”
Some pilots complained that they were still earning 10% less than pre-Covid-19 pandemic levels, even though the airline was now thriving.
Meanwhile, FlySafair has advertised vacancies for pilots on a salary of R670 200 a year.
