Platō, one of the fastest-growing local coffee brands, is the first company in South Africa to roll out Yoyo’s bank card-linked loyalty system. Customers can now automatically earn rewards every time they tap to pay.

With over 98 locations already pouring coffee across the country, and a goal of reaching 150 by the end of 2025, Platō joined forces with Yoyo to introduce a loyalty system as smart and seamless as its in-store experience.

Effective from 1 June, every time a customer taps their bank card to pay at a Platō café, a 5% cashback is reflected in their Platō App. This cashback can be used at any Platō store in South Africa. Unregistered users are invited via SMS to download the Platō App and unlock any cashback they’ve already accumulated.

Within only three weeks of its launch, the Platō App accounted for over 30% of all in-store transactions, marking a more than two-fold increase on the industry standard for loyalty apps. The leading results reflect a healthy and increasing appetite for loyalty programs among South Africans who prefer instant cashback as their top loyalty benefit (source).

“Platō was never just about coffee,” says Stephan Bredell, co-founder and CEO of Platō. “From day one, we set out to build something bigger — a brand that brings people together.

‘Coffee sculpted, Community Included’ isn’t just a slogan; it’s how we approach everything we do. We’re always looking for ways to enhance our coffee, the brand, the experience — even the loyalty system — better, smarter, and more meaningful. This new app is just another step in that journey.”

Yoyo’s platform integrates with Yoco, Platō’s point-of-sale provider, and rewards are embedded in the payment process, which eliminates the need for loyalty cards.

Added Bevan Ducasse, CEO of Yoyo, “For years, our customers have asked for loyalty without extra cards or additional steps. We decided that the ultimate solution would be to develop a system where your bank card becomes your loyalty card. Having Platō and Yoco as our first-to-market partners is a momentous step for the future of how customers experience and engage with loyalty.”

Getting started is simple.

1. Tap your card to pay at any Platō café.
2. Register your mobile number on the Yoco terminal (once off).
3. Download the Platō App.
4. Automatically earn cashback every time you pay with your bank card.

The Platō App is available for download on the App Store and Google Play. It works with all major cards, including Visa, Mastercard, AMEX, Apple Pay, and Samsung Pay.
