The adventurous new derivative of Volvo’s award-winning electric crossover is coming soon, bringing rugged design, all-wheel drive and zero emissions.

Following the local release of the range-topping EX90, the brand’s all-electric seven-seater, Volvo Car South Africa is pleased to announce the imminent arrival of the new EX30 Cross Country, the rugged derivative of the award-winning EX30.

With a spirit of adventure, the EX30 Cross Country brings an iconic name back to the Volvo lineup. First introduced in 1997 on the V70, the Cross Country treatment adds rugged and adventurous styling, along with updates to the marque’s refined vehicles. With an increased ride height over the standard EX30, the Cross Country offers greater capability. 19-inch five-spoke alloy wheels, finished in Matte Graphite with contrasting Matte Black aero inserts, add to the EX30 Cross Country’s rugged appearance.

While the EX30 Cross Country retains the EX30’s minimalist good looks, Volvo has made several refinements to its more rugged counterpart. For a start, the front shield and boot lid are finished in a unique dark hue, with the front fascia sporting model-specific artwork that highlights the topography of the Kebnekaise mountain range in Arctic Sweden. New styling cues include more muscular skid plates front and rear, along with wheel arch extensions, lending the EX30 Cross Country a more chiselled and rugged look.

In South Africa, the EX30 Cross Country will be offered exclusively in Ultra Twin Performance guise, meaning customers will be treated to a full house of luxury and convenience features. Among the standard features are a heated steering wheel, panoramic sunroof, power-adjustable front seats, and more than 15 driver assistance features. EX30 Cross Country owners will be able to personalise their vehicles with bespoke accessories, including mudflaps, a load carrier, and a roof basket*.

With a strong range of 427 km, the EX30 Cross Country has more than enough range to cover great distances, making it the ideal choice for eco-conscious adventurers. Charging is a cinch, with the rugged crossover able to charge from 10-80% in as little as 26 minutes. Standard all-wheel drive provides maximum traction, even on loose surfaces like gravel and dirt.

“The EX30 Cross Country builds on everything people love about the EX30, adding rugged capability and distinctive design details,” said Felipe Yagi, Head of Marketing and Communications at Volvo Car South Africa. “It’s a refined, all-electric SUV that feels equally at home on gravel roads or in the city, offering South Africans a practical way to go further with confidence.”

Volvo’s dedication to electrification is evident in the EX30 Cross Country and the rest of its electric lineup. The Swedish marque offers a broad range of electrified choices, from fully electric models to plug-in and mild hybrids, ensuring there’s something for every driver. Looking ahead, Volvo plans for battery-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles to make up nearly all of its global sales by 2030.

Local pricing and specifications for the EX30 Cross Country will be announced closer to the South African launch later this year.
