Cape Town, AfricaTech Festival — Eswatini Posts and Telecoms Corporation (EPTC), led by Group Managing Director Themba Khumalo, has issued a call for international fibre and technology partners to help drive the nation’s ambitious connectivity agenda.
As the Kingdom of Eswatini advances its digital capabilities, EPTC is focused on expanding its broadband infrastructure and enhancing service quality for both urban and rural communities.
EPTC, originally a copper-based carrier, has leveraged national broadband goals, optimised resources, adopted cutting-edge technologies, and embraced generational advancements to transform their network.
“We are open for business,” Khumalo stated, emphasising EPTC’s readiness to collaborate with global technology partners.
He highlighted Eswatini’s unique position, having observed global telecom successes and challenges, allowing EPTC to implement a refined hybrid model that combines the strengths of both urban and rural connectivity initiatives.
With 90% fibre connectivity already established in urban centers, EPTC is now focused on extending fibre access across rural regions, aiming for 90% household coverage in the near future.
The company’s vision includes enabling high-speed internet access, cloud services, and e-education to reach even the most remote areas, leveling the playing field for all citizens.
EPTC’s robust infrastructure also supports government-led initiatives, providing a foundation for smart cities, e-health, and other vital public services.
Khumalo invited global partners to “fly to Eswatini” and partner with EPTC, emphasiSing the nation’s readiness to create a world-class, affordable network that will uplift its population.
As EPTC builds out its last-mile connectivity, it aims to empower local youth, who make up 60% of the population, to leverage cutting-edge technologies like AI and virtual reality to benefit both Eswatini and the global market.
Cape Town, AfricaTech Festival — South Africa’s Minister of Communication and Digital, Solly Malatsi, delivered an impactful message on Africa’s digital future, emphasising South Africa’s central role as a regional hub for investment and innovation.
In his speech titled “Advancing Africa’s Digital Future: South Africa’s Commitment to Connectivity, Innovation, and Inclusive Growth,” Malatsi laid out the country’s vision to harness digital transformation not only to strengthen South Africa but to benefit the entire continent.
Malatsi highlighted South Africa’s unique position to attract digital investment, stating, “To advance this vision, we are positioning South Africa as a prime destination for digital investment that will drive benefits across Africa. The tech ecosystem in Africa is growing rapidly, and the continent’s internet economy is expected to reach $180 billion by 2025, contributing 5.2% to Africa’s GDP (International Finance Corporation, 2022).”
Malatsi emphasised that South Africa’s skilled workforce, regulatory support, and strategic location create an ideal environment for a technology hub capable of propelling growth across Africa.
