The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has issued a critical warning to the public regarding a fraudulent email correspondence. The scam email falsely claims to be from the SABC and threatens recipients with a warrant of arrest for non-payment of TV License fees.
The Deceptive Email
The email in question originates from an address: [email protected] (purporting to be the “TV License Board”).
However, it is not an official SABC email address. The Corporation categorically denies any involvement in such threatening communications.
What You Should Do
- Ignore the Email: If you receive an email from [email protected], disregard its contents. Do not panic or take any action based on the threats mentioned therein.
- Avoid Downloading Statements: The SABC advises against downloading any attachments or statements from this fake email. These attachments may contain malicious software or phishing attempts.
- Verify Official Communications: Always verify the authenticity of any communication claiming to be from the SABC. Legitimate correspondence will come from official SABC email addresses or other verified channels.
Stay Informed and Vigilant
Scammers often exploit fear and urgency to manipulate unsuspecting individuals. By staying informed and vigilant, you can protect yourself from falling victim to such fraudulent schemes. Remember that the SABC will never threaten anyone with a warrant of arrest via email.
If you encounter suspicious emails or have any doubts, report them to the relevant authorities or contact the SABC directly. Let’s collectively safeguard our community against cyber threats and misinformation.
