Telkom today announced its recognition as the Top Employer in South Africa for 2024 by the distinguished Top Employers Institute.

This prestigious accolade underscores Telkom’s steadfast commitment to cultivating an environment that prioritises and invests in its most valuable asset – its people.

On 18 January 2024, Telkom was honoured to receive the prestigious Top Employer Award – for a second year in a row – a testament to the Company’s dedication in achieving a harmonious balance between investing in its workforce, refining operational processes, enhancing the physical work environment, and embracing cutting-edge technology. This distinction further solidifies Telkom’s position as an employer of choice in South Africa.

The Top Employers Institute, a global authority in recognising excellence in employee conditions, conducted a rigorous assessment of organisations worldwide. The evaluation process encompassed a thorough analysis of HR policies, employee development initiatives, work environment, and overall employee experience. This accolade not only attests to Telkom’s success in meeting these stringent criteria but also reflects the Company’s ongoing commitment to continuous improvement.

The survey is based on six domains that cover key HR themes: steer, shape, attract, develop, engage and unite. These themes explore topics like people strategy, work environment, talent acquisition, learning, diversity, equity and inclusion, and wellbeing.

The Telkom Group performed significantly better this year across all 6 categories. The enhancement in our performance can be attributed to a targeted review assessing all the domains and sub-areas where our performance was suboptimal. This comprehensive evaluation enabled us to identify specific initiatives in the immediate and longer term to enable us to improve and positively impact the overall employee experience.

Melody Lekota, Group Chief Human Resources Officer at Telkom, expressed, “At Telkom, we understand that our success is deeply intertwined with the well-being and growth of our employees. This acknowledgment as a Top Employer affirms that our holistic approach to employee engagement, experience, wellbeing and professional development is aligned to industry best practice.”

Looking forward, this accolade serves as a powerful motivation for Telkom to continue fostering a workplace that not only meets but exceeds the expectations of its talented and diverse team. As the Company navigates the challenges and opportunities of 2024, Telkom remains committed to upholding a spirit of innovation, collaboration, and excellence that has been pivotal in reaching this milestone.

“The experience of our employees matters,” says Lekota. The Telkom HR team has dedicated significant effort to revolutionise our people-centric initiatives and solutions. This certification not only validates our strategic direction but also demonstrates the tangible returns on our investments, aligning seamlessly with industry and international standards. It serves as a testament to the unwavering commitment of the HR team to continuous evolution,” concludes Lekota.
