UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson was self-isolating on Monday “Freedom Day” when all COVID-19 restrictions were done away with.

Johnson had been in contact with twice vaccinated health secretary Sajid Javid who tested positive for Covid-19 at the weekend.

As many as 50 000 people tested positive for the virus a day before Freedom Day that ended a year of restrictions,

“If we don’t do it now we’ve got to ask ourselves, when will we ever do it?” Johnson said.

Alarmed, TV personality Piers Morgan tweeted: “It’s so dumb when the pandemic is still raging hard and UK’s now got highest number of new daily cases in the world”.

More than 46 million of the 67 million people in the UK have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine.

On Monday many freedom lovers discarded their masks and gave up on social distance for hugs and kisses.

The Mirror is reporting that UK Covid-19 cases rose over 40% in one week with 39 950 recorded on Freedom day.

Britain has the seventh-highest death toll in the world, 128,708

“This is the right moment but we’ve got to do it cautiously. We’ve got to remember that this virus is sadly still out there,” said Johnson.
