Telkom has welcomed the National Treasury to its growing list of clients following a competitive pitch process after which the company was added as one of the official service providers.
As part of the RT15-2021 Transversal contract, Telkom will provide government institutions with Mobile Communication Services for the period commencing 1 April 2021 and ending 31 March 2026.
The Transversal Contract RT15-2021 is a 5-year tender that offers successful mobile service providers the opportunity to serve the South African government with all its mobile and enterprise solutions including hardware and software as well as accessories.

“This contract strengthens our long-standing relationship with government to respond to the needs of South Africa towards a digital economy. Our response to COVID-19 to enhance digital delivery of education, zero-rating of education sites and developing a track and trace platform for frontline workers are some of the examples of our commitment to work with the government.”
The opening up of the Transversal contract sets the tone for fair competition and gives all providers in the mobile and broadband market the opportunity to compete.
Converged voice call solution
The company’s proprietory solution turns the complete Telkom mobile network as well as its fixed network into a Closed User Group (CUG).
Telkom is the only company that can offer this converged voice call solution across fixed and mobile numbers – which will result in significant voice calling savings for the state. State institutions will be able to enjoy this unique CUG irrespective of whether they have opted in for RT15 or not.

Telkom has made massive strides as challenger broadband and mobile telephony provider to improve network quality.
The deployment of the temporary spectrum to improve network performance and its robust network over the last year has proven that Telkom is on the right path.
