The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) wishes to inform all stakeholders of the passing of former Councillor Botlenyana Mokhele yesterday.

Mokhele joined ICASA as a Councillor on the 4th of April 2016 and left the office on the 10th of June 2020, upon the end of her four (4) year term. She was not new to ICASA when she joined in 2016, as she had served at the former Independent Broadcasting Authority (ICASA’s predecessor), ICASA’s Policy Department and the Department of Communications, to name but a few.

The regulator said it is indeed grateful to have had Ms Mokhele as a member of the Council, as she participated actively and fully in the Authority’s performance and decision-making processes. She chaired and co-chaired a number of critical regulatory projects across all the core regulatory functions particularly the Policy, Research & Analysis, Licensing and Engineering & Technology.

“It is a loss not only to the family, but to ICASA and the entire ICT sector. Ms Mokhele will be deeply missed for her valuable contribution to the sector, having represented ICASA at international platforms such as the International Institute of Communications (IIC). Her wisdom, strong analytical and advanced problem solving skills were commendable. Her humble personality, willingness to learn and adaptability were the traits that guided her in all her choices”, says ICASA Chairperson, Dr. Keabetswe Modimoeng.

May her unwavering regulatory spirit live on and her soul rest in eternal peace.
