MTN announced on Tuesday that Godfrey Motsa will assume the position of CEO of MTN SA.

His appointment will be effective from 13 March 2017.

Motsa will replace Mteto Nyati, who will join JSE-listed tech group Altron.

Motsa is currently VP of the SEA region at MTN Group.

He has over 10 years of experience in the mobile telecoms industry, having occupied the positions of CEO of Vodacom Lesotho, CEO of Vodacom DRC and more recently Chief Officer Consumer Business Unit at Vodacom SA.

“I am delighted that Godfrey will assume the position of CEO at MTN SA. We have worked well together in the past and I know he brings considerable experience and value to the position,” the incoming MTN Group CEO Rob Shuter said in a statement.

Phuthuma Nhleko, MTN’s Executive Chairman, said the appointment of Godfrey hopefully brings to finality seminal management changes that the group has had to undertake in the last 12 months.

“I would like to take the opportunity to thank Mteto for his contribution to MTN SA and wish him the best in his future endeavours.”

MTN also announced that Karl Toriola, the current VP WECA, will assume the additional responsibility of VP of the SEA region in the interim. The announcement of the new VP of the SEA region will be made in due course.
