South Africa’s ZAdotCities domains of .capetown (‘dotCapeTown’), .joburg (‘dotJoburg’) and .durban (‘dotDurban’) have notched up impressive totals of over 4 500, 3 500 and 2 500 domain name registrations, respectively. This is as of today and according to the ZA Central Registry (ZACR), which first made these geographic Top Level Domains (gTLDs) available for public registration in July 2014.
“The Internet presence of our three leading cities is rapidly becoming a South African online success story,” said ZACR CEO, Lucky Masilela. The exact statistics for these gTLDs are available on ZACR’s website, www.registry.net.za.
“There is sustained local and overseas interest in the major cities that make the continent’s most diversified economic hub. As the economy continues to gather steam for a predicted better economic performance in 2017, we’re confident ZAdotCities registrations will experience continued growth,” Masilela said.
A dotCapeTown, dotJoburg and dotDurban domain name appeals to national pride, helps boost SEO (search engine optimisation) rankings and enables both individual and organisational brands stand out from the worldwide web clutter. Anyone – whether at home or abroad – with a particular affinity for Johannesburg, Cape Town or Durban can register a ZAdotCities domain with ZACR accredited registrars.
“Every leading city in the world is well on its way to establishing their own unique destination on the web and these latest registration numbers prove South African cities will not be left behind,” said Masilela.
