MTN invests R2.6m in the Vaal

Today MTN SA Foundation invested R2.6 million worth of computer laboratories in the Sedibeng West District of the Vaal region.  The handover took place at Qhoweng Primary School.


Seven schools will receive fully equipped computer laboratories and the district will be gifted with a mobile computer laboratory as well as a Toyota Fortuner Vehicle to drive the laboratory (trailer) around various areas in the district.

The beneficiary schools include Mqiniswa Primary School, Lebohang High School, Khutlotharo Secondary School, Qhoweng Primary School, Polokong Primary School, Lakeside Secondary School and Poelano Secondary School.

Laboratories provided to the schools have been renovated, furnished with 20 computer desks and chairs, and an educator’s station.  These computer laboratories are equipped with two servers, a multi-functional printer, an inter-active white board, a data projector, a router and data card for connectivity.

MTN will also provide a data card for connectivity and free internet connectivity for 24 months. There after a negotiated rate with the Department of Education will be provided.

“The support from the Foundation is a part of our on-going commitment to ensuring that we make a positive difference in the communities we operate in and contribute positively to the development of learners who will contribute to the growth and sustainability of our economy, ”Says Kusile Mtunzi Hairwadzi; GM MTN SA Foundation.

The handover of the computer laboratories is part of MTN SA Foundation’s commitment to bridging the digital divide in education in all nine Provinces.  In a long established partnership with the Department of Education, MTN SA Foundation has helped build a the company’s vision of a bold new digital world in 2014 by establishing 45 state-of-the-art computer laboratories in Mpumalanga, Northern Cape, Gauteng, Free State and Limpopo.

    I really, really love this a corporate giant investing in improving the lives of our youngsters and nogal coming to the Vaal, a really, really neglected place by big corporates. I am leaving Vodacom for MTN. Will be buying the simcard tomorrow. Bye Vodacom you havent done nothing for my community
