But the City of Cape Town says it has no idea who is responsible for the latest display at the corner of Kloof and Buitensingel streets.

“No application was made to the City [to have the banner erected],” said spokesperson Priya Reddy.

“We will investigate whether it is in contravention with any of our bylaws and if it is, the matter will be handed over to our prosecutor,” said Reddy.

Meanwhile, the City was still in the process of taking action against signage company, Independent Outdoor Media, which was behind the allegedly illegal erection of the “Zuma Must Fall” banner put up last week.

The banner sparked outrage among ANC supporters who took to the apartment building on Saturday and ripped it off the wall using knives and other sharp objects.

Reddy said the City had already handed all documentation to prosecutors about that incident. They would read through it before writing a summons. The process could take between 14 and 21 days, Reddy said.
