Vodacom embarks on a skills development training in information and communication technology (ICT) in order to help empower unemployed youth through the Cisco IT essentials.

Vodacom saw it fit to capacitive the instructors further, by once again partnering with both Cisco & Microsoft. The training focuses on Cisco CCNA 1 & 2 & Microsoft ITA. The training will help and give learners an opportunity to be competitive in the field of IT as both help desk & technical support.

The programme aims to train unemployed youth in ICT skills and to further develop them into ICT entrepreneurs. As part of the skills training the youth received training in A+, N+ and 3G connectivity.

The ICT skills training seeks to equip the youth with relevant skills to assist with the installation of IT equipment as well as provide instruction in high-end computer skills to the youth and members of the community visiting the centres.

Vodacom Executive Head, stakeholder & reputation management: corporate affairs, Tshepo Ramodibe says: “This is Vodacom’s contribution towards development of skills that support job creation for unemployed youth.

“Besides our core business, we are also committed to doing what we can to stimulate skills development and job creation within the ICT sector. Through the ICT skills training, we are now able to fulfil this commitment and also play an active role in the creation of job opportunities for young people.”

Following the training, the youth will be able to support the network of schools connected via the Vodacom Mobile Education programme as well as engage in reselling of Vodacom products and the developing of mobile applications or mobile apps.
