A possible new mobile operator or a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) promises cellphone customers “freedom”.

The unidentified company behind this operator on its Twitter page said: “Hello. Fancy a bit of freedom?”

It added: “Pssst, don’t renew your mobile contract just yet, nudge nudge wink wink hint hint.”

The new MVNO on its Twitter page added: “Does your large mobile bill make you feel loved?”

The company which has a campaign titled BeUnOrdinary has 359 followers on its Twitter page @BeUnordinary .

The MVNO model has failed to seriously compete against mobile phone operators in SA. We have been promised by commentators for many years that MVNO represents the next evolution of mobile in the South African industry. That said maybe this company behind the BeUnordinary campaign to free customers may finally challenge Vodacom, MTN, Cell C and Telkom.

Surprisingly, the BeUnordinary campaign has colours of the French telecoms group Orange, which has been rumoured for years to be scouting for opportunities in South Africa, including seeking to buy struggling Cell C.
