Telkom’s 11 contestants are making final preparations today before they attempt to beat the clock – and each other – to set a new record, certified by Guinness World Records, for the longest concurrent time spent watching movies. South Africa’s Communications Minister Faith Muthambi wants the state to have total control of the SABC and has introduced legislation that would give her the final say on who is appointed to the broadcaster’s board, which has been backed by cabinet, according to the Sunday Times. The ongoing kerfuffle between MTN, Africa’s largest mobile phone operator, and the Nigerian authorities took another twist on Friday.
