Volvo Cars redefines the relationship between driver and machine with the launch of the new, fully electric EX60. This mid-size SUV, set for global reveal tomorrow is the first Volvo capable of natural, conversational interaction, establishing it as the brand’s most intelligent and technologically advanced car to date.
At its core is a revolutionary integration: the EX60 debuts as the first Volvo with Gemini, Google’s advanced AI assistant. This system transforms the in-car experience by enabling true, multi-turn dialogue. Drivers manage complex tasks through natural conversation, free from the need to remember specific commands.
“The new EX60 is full of human-centric technology designed to enhance your life behind the wheel,” says Anders Bell, Chief Engineering and Technology Officer at Volvo Cars.
“HuginCore, our state-of-the-art system of hardware and software, combines our in-house developed technology with the best services and technologies from tech leaders such as Google, NVIDIA and Qualcomm Technologies. It creates discreet yet cutting-edge tech that works quietly in the background to support you.”
Beyond Voice Commands: A Conversational Partnership
Gemini’s deep integration allows it to act as a proactive co-pilot. It provides hands-free control for navigation, climate, and media, while its personalization and contextual understanding unlock new functionalities, says Volvo.
The carmakar adds that drivers can ask Gemini to find a hotel address from an email, verify if a new purchase will fit in the trunk, or brainstorm road trip ideas—all while keeping their eyes on the road.
The Brain: HuginCore and Unprecedented Processing Power
This intelligence is powered by HuginCore, Volvo Cars’ newly named core system. Encompassing the electrical architecture, core computer, and software, it transforms the EX60 into a true software-defined vehicle. HuginCore is fueled by a formidable tech ecosystem:
-
TheQualcomm Snapdragon Cockpit Platformdelivers the highest processing power ever in a Volvo for a seamless, lag-free user experience.
-
The NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin system-on-a-chip provides the accelerated computing for advanced safety and AI features, capable of over 250 trillion operations per second.
The result is the most responsive interface in Volvo history, where screens react instantly, maps load immediately, and the car understands and learns from every mile.
A New Standard in Safety and Evolution
Volvo says HuginCore processes data from a vast sensor array to give the EX60 a precise understanding of its surroundings. This enables advanced driver assistance designed to anticipate risk, avoid hazards, and increase overall reassurance.
“Critically, the EX60 is built to evolve. Through regular over-the-air updates via the Volvo Cars Superset tech stack, features and safety systems will continuously improve. Future integrations will unlock even more of Gemini’s potential, including visual question-answering using the car’s cameras.”
Leading Electric Performance
As previously announced, the EX60 sets a new benchmark for electric range, achieving up to 810km (WLTP) on a single charge in an all-wheel-drive configuration. It supports ultra-fast charging, adding up to 340km of range in just ten minutes at a 400kW charger.
The Reveal
The Volvo EX60 will be unveiled to the world on 21 January 2026. The reveal event will be livestreamed on Volvo Cars’ official channels.
