It’s more than obvious that CBD has been riding the popularity wave for quite some time now and the future seems to be even brighter. With the legality surrounding CBD becoming more straightforward and relaxed, CBD awareness on the rise, an increased interest from consumers and the impressive variety of CBD derived products on the market, it’s no surprise that this ingredient has taken center stage in the health and wellness landscape.

Statistics also reveal that the CBD industry has been blooming in recent years and will continue to do so as consumer sales of CBD in the US are expected to reach 1.8 billion dollars by 2022. All these aspects seem to point in the same direction: we’re in for a green rush. But there’s something in this success story that most people ignore. The spectacular rise of the CBD industry is fueled in part by the latest technological advances. It can’t be denied that innovation and technology play a key role in the CBD boom we’re witnessing at the moment and they will further shape the CBD industry in the years to come. That’s why it’s worth taking a moment to analyze and understand the impact of technology in the CBD industry.

CBD farming made easy

Cannabis growers have their work cut out for them as cultivating cannabis for CBD extraction is an intensive process that requires a lot of time and effort. The right tools for preparing the soil, potting and planting, and the necessary knowhow can make life easier for hemp farmers, reducing the workload and increasing the efficiency of all tasks involved in the farming process.

But regular instruments can only help to a certain extent. That’s where technology steps in, with advanced equipment and systems that can help streamline operations and ensure a much smoother process. Nowadays, hemp cultivators have gadgets and devices that can manage and improve every aspect of the growing cycle, from seed to full-grown plant. From biometric security systems to instruments that can measure soil and water quality, or special equipment that can control the processing stage, technology has changed the face of hemp farming.

Quality, first and foremost

The market has been flooded by a myriad of CBD products, which can be both a good and a bad thing. The fact that consumers have a wide variety of choices is definitely a positive aspect, but in the same time an increasing number of low-quality CBD products have been reaching stores lately. That means consumers are also having a hard time finding reliable CBD brands and identifying effective products in the sea of CBD items that are crowding the market.

The good news is technology can make it easier for consumers to recognize quality CBD and find out what’s in the products they’re buying. This is possible with the help of a quality-tracking software that can provide consumers with detailed information about the source of the CBD or how the cannabis plant was grown and processed, so they can assess the quality of the products and make an informed decision.

Overcoming financial challenges

Since things are moving forward with the speed of light in the CBD industry, a lot of entrepreneurs saw the opportunity and decided to jump on the bandwagon. However, with all the progress in the legal department, starting a CBD business still comes with a lot of challenges given the reluctance of many traditional financial institutions to provide support for such ventures.

Where old school financing methods fail, technology can provide the answer. Cryptocurrencies enter the stage, allowing CBD businesses to perform secure transactions and avoid the banking issues they would face in a regular financing system. Cryptocurrencies provide various benefits such as:

  • Fast and safe cashless payments
  • the possibility to track all transactions
  • decentralized data, providing extra protection against cyber-attacks

Genetic engineering

With so many players entering the CBD market, competition is getting tougher by the minute. CBD producers are finding it harder to stand out from the crowd and come up with products that will catch consumer’s eye. Every day we see another CBD product hitting the shelves or a brand-new category of CBD derived items making their entrance. If you want to stay up to date and try some of the most interesting CBD products on the market, you can check them out here and learn more about the benefits they provide.

So how exactly can manufacturers produce new and unique CBD products? Through genetic engineering. This means they employ advanced techniques to manipulate the genetic structure of the cannabis plant and create one-of-a-kind CBD products with unique qualities and enhanced benefits.

Better extraction technologies

In order to produce high quality CBD products, manufacturers have to focus on the purity of the CBD extracts they use. Some old-school extraction methods using ethanol or olive oil doesn’t guarantee the best CBD quality, so producers have to find other extraction techniques that can eliminate the drawbacks and ensure they’ll obtain a first-class CBD concentrate.

While CO2 extraction is considered the best option at the moment and is continuously improved upon, other emerging techniques such as ultrasonic extraction or sonification are breaking new grounds in the field, promising far better results.

CBD bioavailability

There’s been an intense debate surrounding the bioavailability of the CBD found in the products that are available on the market. A lot of people question the efficiency of these products and wonder if they have any beneficial effects at all. Studies have shown that a lot of the CBD we consume can’t be absorbed into the bloodstream, rendering most products inefficient.

Luckily, we have nanotechnology to address these issues and improve CBD bioavailability. The nanotechnology process involves reducing the CBD extract to nanoscopic size, so it can be absorbed by the body, thus ensuring higher bioavailability.

As you can see, technological advances can work on different levels to address common issues CBD producers face and move the CBD industry further, so we can confidently say this is only the beginning and we’ll witness many interesting developments in the future.
