OpenAI today announced the roll out of ChatGPT Go across Africa. ChatGPT Go is a new tier of subscription plan designed to give more people access to ChatGPT’s advanced capabilities at a more affordable price.
The launch comes as Africa continues to adopt AI at a rapid pace. ChatGPT Go subscribers gain access to ChatGPT’s most popular features, including higher message limits, image generation, file uploads, and memory – all powered by GPT-5, OpenAI’s most-advanced model. The subscription reflects a 75% reduction in price on average compared to the next tier of ChatGPT subscription.
Compared to OpenAI’s free plan, ChatGPT Go offers:
-
10× higher message limits with GPT-5
-
10× more image generations per day
-
10× more file or image uploads per day
-
2× longer memory for more personalized responses
The subscription plan makes it easier for people to use ChatGPT whenever they want it, so even more people can experience the everyday magic of AI – whether that’s translation, learning or teaching, writing, improving productivity or “how to” advice.
“Millions of people across Africa are already using ChatGPT to learn new skills, solve everyday problems and start businesses,” said Nick Turley, Vice President & Head of ChatGPT. “With ChatGPT Go, we want to make cutting-edge AI affordable and accessible – so everyone can benefit from it.”
The rollout to 54 African countries builds on strong demand for cost-friendly subscriptions across the globe. Since launching ChatGPT Go in India, the number of paid subscribers more than doubled in a month, with highly positive feedback from users.
ChatGPT Go is now available in 89 countries across India, the Middle East, Central Asia, Asia, the Caribbean, and Latin America. The full list of countries ChatGPT Go is available is on our help centre.
ChatGPT Go sits alongside ChatGPT’s existing subscription options:
-
Go: For everyday users seeking more access at a lower price
-
Plus: Premium performance with faster responses and priority access
-
Pro: Professional-grade tools with near-unlimited scale and customisation
ChatGPT Go will be available in Africa from the 15th October. For local pricing see our pricing page.
