Govender was ecstatic to receive the 2024 Global Recognition Award.

She said: “What an incredible honour to receive a Global Recognition Award. It’s truly humbling to be recognised in this way for the work I’ve been fortunate enough to lead at the Empire Partner Foundation (EPF) and EPF Tech Fund.”

Govender said the award was a testament to the dedication and hard work of the entire team at EPF, whose passion for driving positive change in Africa inspires me every day.

“Our work at EPF is driven by a shared commitment to leveraging technology for social and economic progress in Africa. This recognition underscores the impact of our initiatives aimed at empowering youth and fostering positive change across the continent,” she explains.

“I extend my sincere gratitude to the judging panel for acknowledging our contributions. This award serves as further motivation to continue our mission of making a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals and communities through innovative solutions.”

EPF Tech Fund – which now has $11 million (R200 million) to support young entrepreneurs – is raising an additional $4.2 million (R80 million) to invest in students and graduates developing technology solutions that might have a substantial impact.

According to Govender, for entrepreneurs to qualify for support from the EPF Tech Fund, their startups must feature locally developed digital solutions, be spearheaded by young leaders, and demonstrate scalability across various African nations.
