Born in the village of Agincourt Trust in Mpumalanga, Lloyd Mhlanga’s story is one of determination, resilience, and leadership. At just 18 years old, he moved to Gauteng in search of better opportunities, starting his career as a part-time cashier at Big Five Duty Free. Today, Lloyd serves as the CEO of the largest duty-free in Sub-Saharan in Africa, leading with a clear vision shaped by years of dedication and personal growth.

Starting from those humble beginnings, Lloyd quickly demonstrated a strong work ethic and eagerness to learn. Over the years, he progressed through various roles at Big Five Duty Free — from cashier to supervisor, assistant manager, and then manager. His dedication, strategic focus and leadership skills earned him a promotion to General Manager in 2019.

Alongside his career progression, Lloyd has consistently invested in his education to strengthen his expertise. He has qualifications and experience in Wholesale and Retail Operations, Human Resource Management from UCT, and Business Management, Finance and is currently pursuing Business Management Practice at the Henley Business Institute. All this contributed in equipping him with the skills to lead effectively in a complex and dynamic industry.

In his current role, Lloyd oversees all aspects of Big Five Duty Free’s operations. A strategic thinker who has proven a higher degree of excellence in stakeholder relations and leadership.
