Vodacom Group has announced the appointment of Mohamed Abdallah as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Vodacom International Markets and Vodafone Egypt. This strategic move aligns with Vodacom’s Vision 2030, aimed at simplifying operations, accelerating growth, and enhancing customer experiences across its African markets.
Expanding Leadership for Strategic Growth
Currently serving as CEO of Vodafone Egypt, Abdallah will now take on an expanded role, overseeing operations in Egypt, the DRC, Lesotho, Mozambique, and Tanzania. This unified leadership structure is designed to strengthen operational efficiency and drive Vodacom’s strategic priorities across its International Markets portfolio.
A Proven Leader with a Strong Track Record
Abdallah brings over 25 years of experience at Vodafone Egypt, having held key leadership roles, including Enterprise Business Director and Consumer Business Director. Under his leadership, Vodafone Egypt achieved significant growth across Consumer, Business, and Financial Services, solidifying its position as a market leader.
He succeeds Diego Gutierrez, who stepped down in April after seven years as Chief Officer of International Business. Gutierrez played a crucial role in steering Vodacom’s International Markets through key transitions and delivering strong performance since 2017.
Strengthening Vodacom’s Pan-African Vision
Under the new structure, the CEOs of Vodacom DRC, Lesotho, Mozambique, and Tanzania will report to Abdallah, who will continue reporting directly to Vodacom Group CEO, Shameel Joosub.
Shameel Joosub, Vodacom Group CEO, said: “Mohamed is a seasoned executive with a proven ability to deliver strong commercial results. His leadership will be vital as we scale our international operations and advance our purpose-led strategy across Africa. We thank Diego for his immense contributions and wish him success in his future endeavors.”
A Commitment to Africa’s Digital Future
Abdallah expressed his enthusiasm for the new role, stating: “I am honored to take on this responsibility and drive connectivity and innovation across Africa. Vodacom Group is uniquely positioned to shape the continent’s digital future, and together with our talented teams, we will foster a more inclusive, digitally empowered Africa.”
This appointment emphasises Vodacom’s commitment to growth, innovation, and digital transformation across its African markets, reinforcing its leadership in the telecom industry.
