Volvo today reveals the Volvo EX30 Cross Country, designed for people who want big experiences from their small, fully electric SUV.
Building on the success of the EX30, this rugged version is perfect for those eager to escape crowded cities and explore the great outdoors—rain, shine, snow, or ice.
Volvo isn’t just selling a car; they’re offering an experience.
Alongside the EX30 Cross Country, Volvo is launching a special experience package for buyers, including access to outdoor gear, accessories, and tips to help you make the most of your adventures.
“Cross Country is more than just a car—it’s a lifestyle,” said Jim Rowan, Volvo Cars’ CEO. “For over 25 years, our Cross Country models have been about durability and all-weather capability. In Sweden, we face harsh winters, but we still love exploring nature, even at -20°C. With the EX30 Cross Country, we’re delivering a complete experience, not just a vehicle.”
From City Streets to Off-Road Trails

The EX30 Cross Country is ideal for city life, with a fully electric range of up to 427km and zero tailpipe emissions.
It can charge from 10% to 80% in just 26 minutes.
But this SUV is also built for adventure. It sits higher off the ground than the standard EX30, making rough terrain easier to navigate. It comes with larger wheels and an optional 18-inch all-terrain tyre for smoother countryside drives.
All-wheel drive ensures the EX30 Cross Country can handle slippery or tough conditions, making it a reliable companion for life beyond the city.
Rugged Style Meets Functionality

The EX30 Cross Country combines rugged looks with practicality. Its front shield and boot lid feature a dark finish, with a unique topographic design inspired by Sweden’s Kebnekaise mountain range. Chunky skidplates and wheelarch extensions complete the adventurous look.
Inside, the car is packed with clever storage solutions, like large door compartments, a versatile central storage tunnel, and a removable rear storage box. The EX30 Cross Country also comes with Google built-in, including Google Maps, to help you find even the most remote locations.
Safety is a top priority, with features like braking and steering support to avoid collisions, and a driver monitoring system to keep you alert.
The Cross Country Experience

To enhance the adventure, Volvo is introducing the Cross Country Experience, offering owners exclusive discounts on accessories like load carriers, roof baskets, and all-terrain tyres.
“More people are seeking ways to connect with nature,” said Rowan. “With the Cross Country Experience, we’re creating an ecosystem to support our customers’ adventurous lifestyles.”
The Volvo EX30 Cross Country is available to order now in select markets, with deliveries starting this spring. It’s the perfect blend of safety, comfort, and performance for those ready to embrace the outdoors.

Volvo Car SA has claimed the title of South Africa’s favourite electric vehicle manufacturer. In 2024, it topped the charts for overall EV sales and the best-selling nameplate. Leading the charge was the Volvo EX30, the compact electric crossover that dominated the market. With 406 units sold during the year, it earned the title of South Africa’s best-selling battery-electric vehicle for 2024.
The best-selling EX30 was recently announced as a finalist in the 2025 Car of the Year (COTY) competition sponsored by Old Mutual Insure. It is the only electric contender among 17 finalists.
The EX30’s larger siblings, the XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge, further solidified Volvo’s leadership. With 133 units sold, the model line placed third overall. Volvo delivered 539 electric vehicles in 2024, outselling its nearest competitor by 20.86%.
Looking ahead, the upcoming flagship EX90 will accelerate Volvo’s electric ambitions further, while the imminent reveal of the rugged EX30 Cross Country will cater to environmentally conscious adventurers.
“The success of our electric vehicles in South Africa speaks volumes about their capabilities and exceptional value for money in the electric car segment,” commented Markus Cromwell, Commercial Director at Volvo Car South Africa.
“With a starting price of R791,900, the EX30 offers unmatched value while delivering the safety and luxury features our customers expect.”
