The Empire Partner Foundation (EPF), under the leadership of its founder, Nathan Mariemuthu, stands as a beacon of hope for young South Africans, empowering them to unlock their potential and pursue greatness.
Speaking at EPF Tech Awards held in Montecassino this weekend, Mariemuthu emphasised the vital role EPF plays as a partner foundation in nurturing young innovators and giving them the confidence to become leaders in their fields.
“I have a birthday every day,” Mariemuthu remarked in his speech. “I don’t look forward to one specific day because every single day of my life, I get to meet incredible young people who inspire me. That’s the gift I receive daily.”
This simple yet profound sentiment encapsulates EPF’s mission: to constantly seek out and support young talent across South Africa, empowering them to take charge of their futures.
Founded in 2016, the EPF has long held a singular vision: to be a true partner to the youth of South Africa by creating opportunities for growth and innovation in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector.
Through its initiatives, EPF has fostered an environment where young people are encouraged to believe in themselves and their potential to effect real change in their communities.
Mariemuthu’s personal journey mirrors the challenges many young South Africans face today.
He shared a story from his youth, reflecting on how he first discovered his own leadership abilities at the age of 12, when he fearlessly stood up against an unjust system.
“That experience taught me that youth have untapped potential,” he said. “They possess energy and courage, even in the face of adversity.”
EPF, with its unwavering belief in the power of youth, channels this same energy to help young innovators thrive.
“Our people are capable,” Mariemuthu stressed. “We do everything ourselves. You won’t find an events management company or outsourced work—because we trust in the talent within our organization.”
This philosophy reflects EPF’s approach: empowerment comes from within, by equipping young people with the skills and confidence they need to succeed.
EPF’s mission extends beyond simply offering opportunities. It’s about fostering a deep belief in the youth’s ability to shape the future.
Mariemuthu passionately declared, “We just don’t have that confidence, and if we can get that confidence back, I think we’re the most capable country in the world.”
His words serve as a call to action, urging young South Africans to believe in their capacity for greatness.
As EPF continues to drive its initiatives forward, the foundation is making strides not only in South Africa but across southern Africa, encouraging global organizations to invest in the region.
“We’re working closely with Ghana, Zambia, and Tanzania to open doors for young people,” Mariemuthu stated, revealing that the foundation is building an army of tech-savvy youth across the continent.
“We aim to create a million young technology leaders. We’re already at 300,000, and we’re just getting started.”
The Empire Partner Foundation stands as a testament to the power of collaboration, mentorship, and unwavering belief in the potential of the youth. By partnering with young innovators and giving them the tools to succeed, EPF is building a future where South Africa’s youth don’t just survive—they thrive.
Mariemuthu left the audience with one final piece of advice: “Believe in yourselves. That’s all it takes.”
His words capture the essence of what EPF is all about – a foundation that partners with young people to help them realize their own greatness.
