Phuthuma Nathi, the MultiChoice Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE) share scheme, is looking for shareholders who have not received their dividends between 2006 and 2022.

As one of the most successful BBBEE schemes in South Africa, with more than 78 000 Black shareholders, Phuthuma Nathi has been paying dividends every year since the start of the scheme in 2006.

Despite our efforts to contact shareholders, there is still a significant number of shareholders who have not claimed their dividends. Some of the main reasons for unclaimed dividends are that shareholders forget to update their bank account and personal details, which prevents the payment from being made to them.

‘’We have been trying to reach these shareholders to pay them the money that is rightfully theirs. To date, R95 million in unclaimed dividends have been paid but there is still more than R200 million that remains to be claimed. We urge our shareholders who have not received dividends to reach out to us via the Phuthuma Nathi call centre. We hope that this campaign will create awareness and prompt our shareholders to come claim what belongs to them,’’ says Phuthuma Nathi chairman, Mandla Langa.

Shareholders will be requested to provide their details for verification to confirm if they are legitimate shareholders. Once the shareholder has been verified, Phuthuma Nathi will make the necessary payment.

Phuthuma Nathi is a truly Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment scheme, with shareholders from diverse backgrounds. It is recognised as one of the most successful Broad-Based Economic Empowerment schemes in South Africa. To date, the scheme has paid R16.4bn in dividends since it started in 2006.

“We are truly proud of our Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment scheme and the impact it has made in our shareholders’ lives. For many of our shareholders the dividends have been a life-changing process in the sense that shareholders have used the dividends on different things such as paying for their children’s tertiary education or investing for retirement, amongst other things,’’ Langa concluded.
