JSE-listed retailer Mr Price has just launched the period panty – a reuseable, washable panty that does not require the use of tampons and sanitary pads.

Mr Price is selling a period panty at R150 and can be used for up to two years and are quite safe to wear.

The retailer says the period panty is designed with 4 leak-free and odour-free layers for a more carefree you.

How do period panties work?

“Period panties absorb fluid and moisture to keep you dry. You don’t need any other sanitary products; no pads, no tampons – just the panty!,” said Mr Price.

“Every pair is designed to be leak-resistant, to control odour and to provide ultimate comfort and flexibility so you can go about your day-to-day life without having to worry about tampons and pads.”

Mr Price says the period panties are made from 100% polyester with leakproof properties and an antibacterial layer (silver ion).

The average tampon can hold up to 12ml of fluid, while the period panties are designed to hold up to 50ml of fluid.

Can I dry the panty in the sun on a washing line? Will the sun not damage the inner layers?

“Period panties should be washed as normal but should be dried in a non-humid environment to preserve the absorbent and antibacterial layers within the panty. Please avoid drying them in direct sunlight,” says Mr Price.

On whether the period panties are hygienic, Mr Price says: “Our period panties are designed to absorb and dry out fluids while neutralising odours and bacteria.”

“Our reusable period panties significantly decrease the amount of waste created as a result of disposable sanitary pads and tampons, therefore providing a more sustainable and eco-friendly alternative.”
