Wealthy Richard Branson is back safely on earth after a trip to space in his Virgin Galactic spaceplane.

The take-off on Sunday was smooth. The historic flight was broadcast live.

Virgin Galactic landed safely in New Mexico on Sunday morning after a trip meant to make human spaceflight seem unexceptional.

It was 17 years ago that Branson first mooted the idea of going to space and getting other rich people to pay for the outer space travel experience.

In true Branson style, the 70-year-old British billionaire who leads a galaxy arrived on a bicycle before he joined his crew before take off.

The flight took off on Sunday morning around 10:40 a.m. Eastern time from Spaceport America in New Mexico, about 180 miles south of Albuquerque.
