Personal Independence Payment (PIP) is a form of an added benefit for the citizens of the United Kingdom who need extra support to cope up with a long-term disability or illness. By nature, PIP is non-contributory and tax-free, and the benefits of PIP does not depend on a person’s earnings. You can simply dial the PIP contact number to begin the claiming process for PIP.

Structure of PIP:

The whole structure is divided into two sections. One is daily living component and another one is mobility component. You can pay daily living or mobility components through standard or enhanced rates. If you are unable to do basic daily works such as washing clothes, organizing your medicines, money-making decisions, then you can apply for the daily living component. The standard weekly rate for daily living component is £58.70, and the amount of enhanced weekly rate is £87.65. On the other side, if you are facing problems regarding moving around or going out, you can apply for mobility component. The standard weekly rate for the mobility component is £23.20 and for an enhanced rate, it is £61.20. Under the Motability scheme, there is a facility to exchange the amount of enhanced weekly rate of mobility component with your bike or any other vehicle.

Award duration:

Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) decides and awards PIP. DWP provides PIP for a fixed period, and to extend its duration after the fixed period, you need to apply again. For the short term, you can get PIP for 2 years and for a longer term, you can get it for 5 or 10 years. However, to get the benefits of PIP, you have to go through an assessment process where you need to justify your illness or disability. Even after getting the PIP benefits, you may have to face re-assessments to continue getting the benefits.

Claiming procedure:

The claiming procedure for PIP generally starts by dialing the PIP contact number, but in maximum cases, you need to prove the justification of your application through some tests. Along with that, children under 16 and citizens above the state pension age cannot apply for PIP. Alternatively, if your age is above the state pension age and you require care, you may apply for an attendance allowance.

And for the children who are below 16 and need extra care, there is an option for disability living allowance through which they can receive additional support. When you dial the PIP contact number, you have to provide some basic information. After that, you will get a claim form and you need to fill the form. After filling up the form, a healthcare professional will evaluate your claim and on the basis of that, you may have to appear for a face-to-face meetup. After the completion of form-evaluation and face-to-face meetup, you will get a score that will decide how much help you require. If you see that your application has been rejected, you can challenge it as well.
