Jens Montanana, Datatec’s boss, towered again among the top ranks of the highest-paid CEOs in 2015 with total compensation of $3, 2 million (R39 million) compared to $1.77 million (R21.9 million) in 2014.
Montanana’s total pay was more than that of MTN Group CEO Sifiso Dabengwa, who was paid R28 million in 2014 for running a company valued at more than R400 billion.
The total pay of Montanana, who run Datatec an IT firm that is valued at more than R13 billion on the JSE, was $ 3.2 million (R39 million), made up of $1.2 million (R14.7 million) in basic salary, $1.8 million (R22 million) in bonuses, $179 000 (R2.2 million) in pension and a further $38 000 (R468, 785.08) in other benefits.
This total salary was also higher than that of Shameel Joosub, Vodacom Group CEO.
In 2015, Joosub was paid close to R11 million, after the country’s biggest mobile phone operator paid more than R13.5 billion to equity shareholders and debt funders, and grew subscriber base by 7.2% to 61.6 million.
Datatec is an international ICT solutions and services group operating in more than 60 countries across North America, Latin America, Europe, Africa, Middle East and Asia-Pacific. The Group’s service offering spans the technology, integration and consulting sectors of the ICT market.
“Our revenue growth continued this year (2015), driven by a strong recovery in sales and market share at Westcon. Logicalis delivered an improvement in the second half, leading to profitable growth year-over-year. We are also pleased with the improved operating efficiency across all divisions,” said Montana in the group’s 2015 annual report.
“We have maintained our dividend over the past three years despite volatile earnings and have delivered long-term sustainable returns to shareholders. We expect our diverse operating portfolio to continue to deliver revenue growth, as Logicalis adapts its capabilities to address cloud-based infrastructure opportunities and Westcon increases its momentum with global vendors.”
