SuperSport Launches ‘The Morning Cup’ – A FIFA World Cup Daily Breakfast Show

South African broadcast royalty Phat Joe and Nigerian comedy heavyweight Basketmouth lead a star-studded cast in a ground-breaking new morning show that brilliantly collides culture, lifestyle, and football banter.

As the 2026 FIFA World Cup takes centre stage across the globe, SuperSport is set to redefine morning television with the launch of The Morning Cup.

Premiering on 11 June, this brand-new, live daily broadcast is an electrifying collision of football, culture, music, entertainment, and unapologetic conversation.

Anchored by dynamic SuperSport presenters Lwazi Ziqubu and Fiso Mazibuko, the main studio boasts a formidable, pan-African roster of co-hosts.

Bringing their unmatched star power to the desk are legendary SA television and radio personality Phat Joe, Nigerian comedy icon Basketmouth, award-winning Kenyan actress Sarah Hassan, and Egyptian-Jamaican sports presenter Sirayah Shiraz.

For Phat Joe, stepping into this massive continental spotlight is both a triumphant return and a perfect fit.

“Look, anytime you get a call from SuperSport to do a show for a billion people, you answer,” he says.

“But when it’s for a brand-new show with a fresh format and a pan-African cast of hosts? That’s not just a gig—

that’s an invitation to be part of something special. I’m hyped to be back in the building. I never left TV—I just took a strategic pause.”

Highlighting the show’s unique, lifestyle-driven approach, Joe adds: “The energy. Most shows talk at you. The Morning Cup feels like it’s waking up with you—family fun every morning with your favourite personalities during the World Cup. Morning TV means I actually get to sleep like a normal human being again. So, my wife is thrilled.”

That infectious, no-holds-barred energy is already spilling across the continent’s airwaves.

Earlier today, the cast orchestrated a massive cross-continental radio takeover to tease the show’s launch.

Phat Joe brought his signature edge to Anele’s breakfast show on 947 in South Africa, while Basketmouth concurrently commanded the morning commute on Nigeria’s award-winning Brila FM, setting the exact tone of banter viewers can expect.

And expect banter, you should.

When asked about the chemistry with his new co-hosts, Joe held nothing back: “Chemistry? What chemistry? I think the producers messed up. I’m asking them to recast some of the positions as we speak,” he jokes.

“Sarah Hassan is a math nerd. You know she studied to be an actuarial scientist? Actress my foot. She’s going to be busy trying to predict when all the cast members are going to die.”

“Basketmouth is probably going to try and re-kick-start his rap career again on the show for the umpteenth time. The only cast member I like is Sirayah. The producers needed someone to make me look taller—she’s 4’11”, you know.”

Taking the friendly fire in perfect stride is award-winning Kenyan actress and former TV host Sarah Hassan, who adds a touch of glamour and passionate fandom to the vibrant lineup.

“I am incredibly excited. It’s a true honour to work alongside Joe and the Pan African team,” she says.

“It’s great to be on a show that’s going to give perspectives from all over Africa with the hosts being from all parts of the continent. It’s a truly African morning show.”

“I’m loving every moment of this journey and honestly don’t want it to end. This is an absolute dream come true. To be here at SuperSport hosting a show of this magnitude, at such an exciting time for football, is fantastic. I am truly at a loss for words.”

Fully immersing herself in the host-nation spirit, Hassan adds:

“Being in South Africa right now, it only feels right to throw my full support behind Bafana Bafana. My beloved Kenya would always be my first choice if they were here, but in their absence, I’m Bafana all the way.”

Set against a backdrop that feels communal, inviting, and unmistakably familiar, The Morning Cup captures the rituals, reactions, and energy that make the World Cup a deeply shared cultural moment.

Viewers can expect a mouth-watering lineup of international football legends alongside daily hot takes, round-table discussions, comedy inserts, fashion segments, and on-the-ground content from across Africa and the United States.

“This is a different level,” Joe says.

“Interviewing football icons isn’t work; it’s a front-row seat to greatness. I can’t wait to add more fun to an already exciting moment in our lifetime.”

Fans can secure their own spot for this front-row seat every day from 10 June at 07:00- 08:00am (CAT) on SuperSport’s FIFA World Cup Central channel (DStv channel 203) (Nigeria, DStv Channel 223), only on Your World Of Champions.

Designed to meet viewers wherever they are, The Morning Cup also features multiple replay windows across the day, with on-demand viewing readily available on DStv Stream, GOtv and GOtv Stream.
