Secunda – Luyanda Ndlozi is the best overall performer in the Mpumalanga Grade 12 Class of 2025.
As has become the norm, the best-performing Matric Senior Certificate candidate is rewarded with a brand new set of wheels.
Announcing the best performer, Mpumalanga Premier Mandla Ndlovu said: “The overall and outstanding top achiever was Luyanda Ndlozi from Elangwane Secondary School, who scooped a plethora of awards, including a brand new car.”
In line with the Mpumalanga Education Department’s drive to inspire young minds to reach their potential, Ndlozi received a brand new sponsored car – Toyota Vitz and a full bursary to pursue further studies at a public university of her choice.
Ndlozi was presented with the keys during the announcement of the province’s Matric results at the Lillian Ngoyi Centre in Secunda on Tuesday, 13 January 2026.

He added: “In Mpumalanga, the pass rate stands at 86.55%, marking a significant improvement for the province.”
Education MEC Lindi Masina said the province was proud of the great achievement, although the target was a pass rate of at least 90%.
“It gives me pleasure to announce that the class of 2025 registered 69 510 candidates and that 67 114 candidates wrote all the subjects on offer. The provincial pass rate target for 2025 was set at 90%,” Masina said.

“’This is truly exciting and represents a 1.5% improvement from the 84.99 % rate achieved in 2024.”
The MEC said the rewards for being the top Matric candidate serve as an inspiration to other learners to do well and achieve the goals they set for themselves.
“This confirms our commitment to reward hard work, excellence, and demonstrates that dedication, discipline, and sacrifice truly open doors to life-changing opportunities,” MEC Masina said.
