ORT SA welcomed teachers from the Mbongeni Mgugudu Secondary School in Tsakane last week for the launch of the Coding and Robotics Tablet project in partnership with Astron Energy.
Currently in its third year of implementation, the Coding and Robotics programme is part of ORT SA’s initiative to take ICT and STEM skills to schools and communities through a coding programme that brings these 21st-century skills to learners eager to absorb need-to-know tech knowledge at school and beyond.
The committed teachers from the Mbongeni Mgugudu Secondary School demonstrate a high level of engagement and approach their tasks with professionalism.
The project equips these teachers and others with designing, coding, thinking, and problem-solving skills. The very successful programme covers computer science concepts, control statements, logic operations, math operations, conditional operations, procedures, methods, lists, loops, strings, variables, and event handlers.
“We are delighted to partner with Astron Energy in launching the 2023 Coding and Robotics Tablet project which aims to build capacity in schools by equipping teachers with modern technology tools for better education delivery,” said Ariellah Rosenberg, CEO of ORT SA.
“This project is a testament to ORT SA’s commitment to empowering learners and teachers with modern technology tools. We are proud to continue this journey towards improved education and innovation.”
ICT and STEM skills are essential for many jobs in today’s digital age. Teaching these skills in schools is crucial for preparing students for the future, increasing competitiveness, developing problem-solving skills, encouraging creativity, and addressing societal challenges.
Countries prioritising ICT and STEM education are more competitive in the global economy. South Africa can boost its economic growth and development by ensuring that youth have the necessary skills to excel in these fields.
