GovChat, the South African civic engagement technology platform, announces a
partnership with the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) to support the
digitisation of the COVID-19 social relief grant application process.

The partnership with GovChat enables millions of unemployed citizens to access
electronically, including via mobile device, the largest social security programme on the
African continent.

GovChat’s platform, accessed through WhatsApp, FaceBook Messenger, SMS and USSD
channels provides a secure application portal for pre-qualifying citizens, automating
filling, verification and applicant assessment.

GovChat’s technology platform supports the seamless transfer and verification of data
securely and in real-time in a way that integrates well with SASSA’s existing internal
approval and disbursement infrastructure.

The strategic partnership with Sassa is consistent with digital agility objectives
adopted by the South African government. The automation of processes, using the
GovChat artificial intelligence tools enhance the agency’s productivity and allow them
to respond to more applications more quickly.

GovChat Founder & CEO Eldrid Jordaan: “Our core purpose is to facilitate Government-
Citizen engagement through efficient and user-friendly digital interfaces. The partnership
with SASSA is an example of how we are working with the South African Government to
automate and streamline processes, on a secure and compliant digital platform to
empower South Africans to easily interact with Government.”

GovChat was founded in 2016 and launched in 2018 as the official citizen engagement
platform for Government. GovChat was introduced in partnership with the Department of
Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), and the Independent Electoral
Commission (IEC).

GovChat is funded by an enterprise development fund established by JSE-listed Capital
Appreciation Limited. The platform development is supported by its technology partner,
Synthesis, a Capital Appreciation group company.
