Openserve is launching a new product that allows customers to directly obtain broadband service from their ISPs and will no longer be required to obtain a copper line from Telkom Retail.
Openserve is the wholesale division of Telkom and South Africa’s largest telecommunications infrastructure provider.
The product is known as Openserve Pure Connect product across multiple speeds and is clearly a “Naked ADSL” service.
Naked DSL is the practice of providing users with only an ADSL connection which isn’t tethered to a landline number or voice connection. It’s a more cost-effective way for users to connect to the internet without having to pay the monthly fees for a voice line that they will probably never use.
Openserve CEO, Althon Beukes, said the wholesaling of copper broadband access product compliments Openserve’s overall fixed broadband strategy.
“We continuously are looking at innovative ways to provide affordable broadband access to our customers.”
Openserve believes that through this initiative, it will transform the current channel, process, pricing and product sets across its portfolio thereby making it easier for its clients to utilise, stimulate and connect with the end customer on its larger broadband access network.
“This new product now allows customers to directly obtain broadband service from their ISPs and will no longer be required to obtain a copper line from Telkom Retail,” said Beukes.
The group said while it continues to modernise its fixed infrastructure and upgrade its network, it believes that its current copper broadband infrastructure is well-positioned to be wholesaled where it is viable and available.
“This will certainly cater to the increased connectivity and consumption needs by providing an affordable and reliable service to our customers. This should also further support and stimulate online business and the economy at large” said Beukes.
