Inspired by the role that ecommerce and online food delivery companies have played around the world supporting people during the COVID-19 crisis, Mr D Food announced on Thursday a partnership with Kauai.

Kuai is launching Kauai Real Food Market, selling a range of make-at-home smoothie mixes, frozen meals, protein powders and healthy snacks on the Mr D Food app.

Customers will also be able to get Kauai’s sugar-free sparkling sodas and a selection of their healthy real-food ingredients like their famous wraps, Schoon artisanal bread, sugar-free nut butters and 100% local real honey delivered in a safe, contactless way.

Through the addition of Kauai Real Food Market on the Mr D Food app, customers now have a great way of staying healthy at home without having to step outside. The Kauai Real Food Market will be available in selected Western Cape areas from today, with imminent plans to expand to Johannesburg.

In the past week, Mr D Food has been working hard to establish alternative services and the addition of the Kauai Real Food Market store to the app is just one of Mr D Food’s efforts to support South Africans during the lockdown.

Yesterday, Mr D Food also announced their partnership with Checkers’ MediRite pharmacies which enables customers to have prescriptions and medicine orders delivered safely to their doorsteps.

To support social distancing measures, Mr D Food has implemented contactless delivery.

“Drivers have been instructed not to make physical contact with any customer and to maintain a safe distance. Bags will be placed on a surface indicated by you; the driver will then back away and allow you to pick out your order yourself,” Devin Sinclair, CEO of Mr D Food, explains.

“We have also temporarily deactivated cash payments and customers can use one of our other secure electronic payment methods available in app – credit / debit card, instant EFT or eBucks.”

All Mr D drivers have been educated in line with the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) guidelines. Enhanced hygiene policies have been implemented, with drivers’ bags being frequently cleaned and all drivers having access to hand sanitiser with clear instructions to sanitise their hands before and after each delivery or collection. In addition, all drivers are temperature tested daily at each of the driver hubs. Protective masks are being rolled out for all drivers.

Pity Mr. D refuses to deliver to certain areas and suburbs. I live in the largest suburb in Joburg (KensingtonO) and they refuse to deliver to my home despite most the food outlets being within 2kms of where I live. I had this out with them before the lockdown and they were unrelenting. They stand to lose a lot of business because of their shoddy attitude to clients who would otherwise use their services. I certainly won’t be one of them.
