Vodacom is spending R260 million ($20 million) to offer its more than 30 million subscribers  free mobile games.

South Africa’s biggest mobile phone operator has entered into a strategic partnership with a US-based mobile game publisher, GameMine.

The partnership will provide GameMine’s diverse range of subscription-based mobile games to Vodacom’s large South African mobile market.

GameMine is providing a selection of its ad-free mobile games, which include more than 175 titles spanning all major mobile gaming genres, free of charge to Vodacom subscribers during a promotional trial period.

The deal is part of Vodacom new promotion to retain and attract more customers through free data services, known as Meg Your Day Promotion, which will end on 30 September 2017.

“Vodacom is excited to have partnered with GameMine in the MegYourDay promotion. MegYourDay is the product of numerous conversations with customers, and really listening to what they’re wanting as added value for being part of the Vodacom family,” Nyimpini Mabunda, chief officer consumer Business Unit, said in a statement.

“It is also part of our commitment to delivering digital content services in the most affordable way.”

The partnership will significantly boost GameMine’s global subscriber base as well as its exposure within international mobile carrier markets while providing Vodacom’s South African iPhone and Android users with access to GameMine’s best-in-class mobile games, all of which are being provided in a fully-unlocked, ad-free manner.

GameMine is a US-based mobile game publisher headquartered in Los Angeles, California. GameMine develops, licenses and acquires mobile games, then provides them to consumers in more than 135 countries through a subscription-based mobile game marketplace.

Consisting of a global network of talented developers and gaming experts, multiple industry-leading mobile carrier partnerships and a presence on Google Play, GameMine provides a diverse variety of genre-based mobile gaming portals to satisfy a wide range of gaming interests.

“GameMine recognizes the distinct value and importance of South Africa’s thriving mobile carrier market as an appropriate demographic region for our company’s product, as well as an early trend indicator for the African continent’s entire mobile industry,” Daniel Starr, CEO of GameMine, said in a statement.
