Google has launched shopping ads in South Africa as the web giant looks to bring the best possible shopping experience to the consumers.

The move means that retailers will be able to sell more products online.

The Nasdaq-listed company, headquartered in Silicon Valley, California, wants to turn online browsing into online buying in South Africa.

“Google launched shopping ads in South Africa today – three years ago when I was asked whether Google was bringing shopping to SA there weren’t enough advertisers with enough offers to make it work,” Luke Mckend, the country director of Google South Africa, disclosed on his LinkedIn page.

“The SA online landscape has changed fundamentally since then – lots more advertisers and many more internet users are driven by the ongoing mobile revolution. This launch brings the best possible shopping experience to South African consumers and an awesome opportunity for retailers to sell more products.”

How it works.

Shopping campaigns put your product images, price, and business name right in front of people searching on Google, no matter what device they’re using. You only pay when people click through to visit your website or view your local inventory.

Your ads show up on search.

Google Shopping ads appear alongside Google search results when people search for the products you’re selling.

Your ads show up across devices.

Online shoppers will see your ads, whether they’re shopping for your products at home or on the go.

Your ads speak to the right shoppers.

Make sure to reach the customers you want, by adding the right kind of incentives.

  1. We manage Google shopping campaigns in UK and USA and we see up to 41% increase in sales and revenue as a result, with a return on ad spend of around 300%. We work on sales commission only, not percentage of ad spend. We would be interested to see if we could deliver the same results to merchants in South Africa.
