MTN, Africa and Middle East biggest mobile phone operator by subscribers, will work with Omnicom as its integrated global agency.

The telco said in a statement that the appointment of Omnicom follows a rigorous evaluation process, which began in March 2016, when six major global agency networks were invited to tender.

Three agencies proceeded to the second round late last year, with Omnicom selected based on having met the functional and commercial requirements.

These requirements were scope of work and specialisation, industry and geographic track record, proposed resources (footprint, team and transformation agenda), and specified risk and financial parameters.

The company added that the appointment of Omnicom spans the areas of brand, media, digital, public relations, internal communication and sponsorships, across MTN’s functional areas of Marketing, Consumer, Enterprise Business, Digital Services, Corporate Affairs, Human Resources and Investor Relations at a Group level, as well as the company’s operations in 22 markets.

As of 30 September 2016, MTN recorded 234.2 million subscribers across its operations in Afghanistan, Benin, Botswana, Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, Cyprus, Ghana, Guinea Bissau, Guinea Republic, Iran, Liberia, Nigeria, Republic of Congo (Congo-Brazzaville), Rwanda, South Africa, Sudan, South Sudan, Swaziland, Syria, Uganda, Yemen and Zambia.
