Cell C, South Africa’s third biggest mobile phone operator, is set to charge its customers more for its services from 1 February 2017.

The telco said in a letter to customers that towards the end of 2016 it assessed its entire product offering. “This resulted in certain pricing and product changes which will come into effect on 2 February 2017,” the firm said.

“We confirm that in terms of your subscriber agreement with Cell C, as well as the Consumer Protection Act, Cell C has the option of varying any of its charges from time to time, by means of publishing an amended tariff plan and submitting such tariff plan to ICASA, and by informing you before any of these charges are varied.”

Cell C added that the the free WhatsApp benefit on TRACE Mobile prepaid will be removed from 01 February 2017. Customers have the option to purchase a WhatsApp bundle, a DataExtenda bundle, use their airtime and reward benefits (where applicable) to continue to use WhatsApp.

Cell C also said that Nite Data will be removed from SmartData TopUp contracts activated from 01 February 2017. Customers who are in contract currently will continue to receive their Nite Data allocation until the end of their contract term.
