MTN has named Nhlanhla Qwabe as the new Chief HR Officer for the South African operation. His appointment is  effective from 1 August 2016 and replaces Themba Nyathi. By Staff Writer

Qwabe joins MTN from Aspen Pharmacare, where he held the position of Group Human Resources Executive. Prior to Aspen, he served as Human Resources Director for Nike South Africa, and he also worked for MultiChoice where he served in various capacities in a senior management role.

A graduate of the University of Zululand with a Bachelor of Administration and an Honours degree in Administration, Qwabe also holds a Masters degree in Business Administration from Milpark Business School.

“We are pleased and excited to have a candidate of Qwabe’s calibre who has the requisite skills, experience and expertise to help MTN realise one of its strategic objectives of overhauling employee engagement,” says Mteto Nyati, MTN SA CEO.

Themba has resigned from his current position to pursue interests outside of the organisation.

Themba has worked for MTN for seventeen years and has served the organisation in a number of roles. Under his stewardship, MTN scooped the Top Employer Award for two consecutive years – an affirmation of the company’s attractive employer value proposition.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to join this iconic global African company, whose success over the years is truly admirable. I am looking forward to contributing to create a meaningful employee experience towards the realisation of MTN’s vision of delivering a bold new digital world to all our stakeholders” says Nhlanhla Qwabe.
