MTN customers in South Africa are among the most avid users of streaming music services in Africa.

The mobile phone operator said on Wednesday that its online music streaming platform Music+ has reached 9.3 million users.

Through MTN Music+, MTN have created an app that is continuously updated with original local content that music lovers can have

MTN chief marketing officer, Larry Annetts

access to 24/7.

There are three subscription packages for Music+ platform.

The first one being a three-day package for only R10 including 50MB. The second one is a weekly subscription fee for only R25 including 150MB free data and, lastly, you have a monthly subscription for just R49 and it comes with 500MB free data.

You can also navigate MTN Music+ for free if you have airtime or data bundles loaded. To stream and download music, all you have to do is buy a R10 MTN Music+ bundle. This comes with 50MB data.

The download of the MTN Music+ app is free of charge if you have airtime or data bundles loaded. The app is available on MTN AppStore, musicplus.mtn.co.za or the Google Play Store.

“The main aim was to provide up-an-coming artists as well as established artists with a platform to sell their music commercially to a music-loving South African and African audience. The idea of bringing music that is typically available on various music download services was also pleasing to us as it means our customers will have access to a huge catalogue of original local and African content that they find hard to find,” MTN chief marketing officer, Larry Annetts, said at the time of the launch of Music+.

“By making local artists’ music readily available, it will assist in ensuring that their marketing efforts are rewarded by commercial sales from their fans that typically do not have access to their music with ease. This will make their music more synonymous and accessible to a receptive audience.”

MTN is still offering Simfy Africa, a music streaming services.

Music+ is also big in Nigeria. The mobile phone operator said there is continued uptake of digital offering in Nigeria supported by MTN Music+ and lifestyle services.
